Mrs. W. H. DUTTWEILER
Sarah Elizabeth, daughter of James and Mary ALRID (sic - ALLRED), was born near White Oak, Iowa on July 5, 1859. She departed this life in the Jefferson County hospital in Fairfield, Iowa, October 8, 1930, at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 3 days.
On June 2, 1879 she was united in holy wedlock to William H. DUTTWEILER. Of this union five children were born, all of whom survive her with the exception of the one who died in infancy. Mr. DUTTWEILER, her devoted husband, preceeded (sic) her in death, January 8, 1927.
The children who remain to mourn the loss of their mother are three daughters, Mrs. Emma WILLIAMS of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Mrs. Mary DUTTWEILER of Richland, Iowa and Mrs. Lidia DONOVAN of Fairfield, also one son Henry Fredrick DUTTWEILER of Atchison, Kansas, thirteen grand children, one great grandchild and a host of friends. Two sisters preceeded her in death some years ago.
Mrs. DUTTWEILER was a faithful member of the Lutheran church of Germanville and carried her religion with her in her everyday life, attending the services of the church whenever it was possible for her to do so.
She was a devoted wife and mother and did everything in her power to make her own home happy and was ever ready to lend a helping hand to any neighbor who needed her.
After her husband's death she made her home with her daughter Mrs. Guy DONOVAN where she remained until she was taken to the hospital just a few days before her death.
"The greatest thing in this world is the love of a mother for her child. Times may change; failure may come; friends may leave; sin may mar, but the mother's love never changes, never fails, never dies. It is the greatest thing in the world!"
Funeral services were held in the Hoskins Funeral Parlors on Friday afternoon, Oct. 10, with Rev George G. Parker, pastor of the Lutheran church of Fairfield officiating. Mrs. W. H. Neibert and Mrs. H. C. Weiscarver sang very beautifully the following songs, "Near My God To Thee," "Going Down the Valley One by One" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again."
