Jo Anne BRANDT

Jo Anne BRANDT, 78, of Mason City, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at Heritage Care Center.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, with the Rev. Kathy Graves officiating. The body has been donated to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. BRANDT was born May 14, 1932, in Fairfield the daughter of Ernie and Florence BALDWIN PETERS. She married Duane BRANDT June 8, 1952, in Waverly.

Mrs. BRANDT graduated from Fairfield High School. She majored in radio-speech and dramatic art at the University of Iowa, where she gained experience at WSUI, the university radio station. For several years, she was employed at KGLO Radio & TV doing air time and writing commercials. Later on, she hosted foreign exchange students in her home and became regional director of the Student Exchange Program covering the states of Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska.

Mrs. BRANDT was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on numerous committees through the years. She volunteered for many years at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.

Mrs. BRANDT enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards, doing needlework and making pottery. She served as the regional representative in the Embroiders Guild. She also was responsible for researching,documenting and successfully applying to place the old Mason City Library, a Carnegie Building, to the list for historic preservation. She was a fan of Iowa Hawkeye football.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Deborah of Vienna, Va.; one son, Barry BRANDT and wife Tammy of Cedar Rapids; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jim.
