Eugene EMANUEL

Eugene EMANUEL, 87, of Chandler, Ariz., died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011.

A memorial service will be Thursday in Gilbert, Ariz. Interment will be March 18 at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Mr. EMANUEL was born March 25, 1923, in Ottumwa, the son of Edd and Katie STEELE EMANUEL. He married Lois HAVNER in 1943.

Mr. EMANUEL graduated from high school in Fairfield in 1940. He served in the United States Army in the European Theater, receiving a Bronze Star for his service. After returning from the war, he worked as a draftsman and a postal carrier in Fairfield. He moved his family to Sierra Vista, Ariz., in 1960. He worked as a construction inspector on Fort Huachuca and retired from federal service in 1985. He and his wife relocated to Gilbert, Ariz., in 2001.

Mr. EMANUEL was a founding member of First Christian Church in Sierra Vista. He joined Gilbert Presbyterian Church in 2003.

Later in life, Mr. EMANUEL enjoyed traveling by recreational vehicle and visiting children and grandchildren across the country.

Survivors include three sons, Gary and wife Laura, Craig and wife Gloria and Kelly and wife Krista; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
