MRS. BONFIELD, WELL KNOWN IN FAIRFIELD DIES
Death came yesterday afternoon at the Jefferson county hospital

Mrs. George J. BONFIELD, 55, prominent local business woman, passed away at the Jefferson county hospital at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. She had been a patient there for the past several days.

Funeral services will be held at the Murray funeral home Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Mrs. BONFIELD had suffered a cerebral hemmorrhage (sic) while dining with Miss Ruth Lamson in a hotel in Homestead, Iowa, September 13. She was brought to the hospital here and had been in a critical condition since.

Mrs. BONFIELD, the third daughter of the late Sarah and Henry KAMP, was born in Davenport, Ia. She moved to Fairfield with the family when she was a small child.

She was educated in the Fairfield public schools and was married to George J. BONFIELD August 5, 1914. Mr. BONFIELD passed away August 7, 1936.

Following her husband’s death, Mrs. BONFIELD became actively acsociated (sic) with C. W. Wade in the dry goods firm, Wade and Bonfield, known as the Fair Store located on the south side of the square.

Until that time she had been very active in social as well as civic affairs in Fairfield. During the last war she worked untiringly for the American Red Cross. Before the present welfare system was established, she was one of a small group of women who had charge of community welfare work in Fairfield.

She was a member of the Abracadabra, Women’s Club, and American Legion Auxiliary, and had endeared herself to everyone who knew her by her fine spirit of cooperation and helpfulness.

Beside her son, Lt. George BONFIELD, Jr. stationed with the Air Corps at Daniel Field, Augusta, Ga, she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. L. D. JAMES, Mrs. R. Bruce LOUDEN and Mrs. Park RUSSELL, all of Fairfield.

MRS. BONFIELD LAID TO REST IN EVERGREEN
Hundreds attend funeral services yesterday afternoon

Hundreds of friends, along with relatives, gathered at the Murray funeral home yesterday afternoon to pay their last respects to Mrs. George BONFIELD, well known business woman of Fairfield.

The large funeral home was filled to capacity, with many standing on the stairways and in all available space while scores of persons stood outside the building.

The floral offering was large with the sweet fragrance filling the entire funeral home.

Rev. Fr. Edwin Seidel of Fort Madison, an old friend of the family had charge of the services, assisted by Rev. Fr. H. M. Thoman of Fairfield at the grave.

Rev. Fr. Seidel had charge of the late George BONFIELD's funeral several years ago. He was located in East Pleasant Plain at that time.

Mrs. BONFIELD was well known throughout Jefferson county and surrounding territory and had a countless number of friends. She was active in social and civic affairs as well as being actively associated with C. W. Wade in the dry goods firm, Wade and Bonfield.

Mrs. BONFIELD passed away Tuesday afternoon after several days of serious illness. Although her passing was not considered sudden it was a shock to her family and many friends in the community.

Mrs. BONFIELD was laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers were R. P. Thoma, William Stever, Ralph Eastburn, A. C. LOUDEN, R. C. Norman and W. C. Harrell.
