MRS. J. MEL BLOUGH

Never was there a community more shocked and haddened than when the news flashed over the telephone Sunday afternoon that Mrs. J. Mel BLOUGH was dead.

Why, it seemed almost inceedible, as only the family and near neighbors knew that she was sick. "Grace," as she was known was not of a complaining nature and scarcely anyone realized that she was not well as only three days before she had attended a shower on a dear friend and even at that late day made but little complaint. A short time later medical aid was summoned and pronounced that nervous prostration was her disease, she having full faith in the Dr. thought that she would be all right, but alas! How our hopes are often blasted. In less than three days she so quietly without even a struggle, closed her eyes in the scenes of life and went to be with her Lord and Master, leaving a heart-broken husband and sons awe stricken, but they have nothing to regret as everything in their power was done to alleviate her sufferings but it was not to be.

Grace HARPER was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John HARPER born in Fairfield, February 2, 1873, attending the public schools and later graduated from the Fairfield High schools. Being of a studious nature she attended the Fairfield Business college, known then as the "Rambo and Douglass College." She secured a position as stenographer for a firm at Rock Rapids, Iowa, where she stayed eight years and she spent two years in Denver, Colo., teaching elocution.

She was united in marriage to J. Mel BLOUGH, Sept. 20, 1905 and they lived a happy wedded life in Cedar township for almost 26 years. Two sons came to bless their union, John and Joe, who are at home with the father. She also leaves one brother, Stacy HARPER of Chicago.

In the death of Mrs. BLOUGH marks the passing of a most able and excellent woman. She was always alert, capable, sound of judgment and willing to work for the betterment of the community and she joined her husband and sons heart and soul in the business of the farm and as they strove side by side their purpose was undivided, making life a joy.

She was a woman who never faltered. She made her decisions and clung to them, whether in political or community affairs always taking a great interest in the P. T. A. meetings and as we overheard one successful teacher remark that Grace had helped her more with her school work than many others that had children of school age.

Her voice, her energies and her activities have always been for the uplift of humanity. Having always been blessed with that great blessing good health, until two years ago when she underwent a serious operation for appendicitis but she seemingly fully recovered happy and jovial as ever and now, Why? She should be so suddenly stricken by the lowering of the death cloud is a mystery to us all.

marked to the writer "that you Only a short time ago she re (sic - a couple lines swapped) and I may not live as many years as some other people, but we have got more real pep and joy out of life than many others.'"

She had been a real friend of the Ledger and for many years a correspondent for the paper.
