Mary STEVER LUTES, 93, of 400 Highland Ave., died at 5:05 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 1997, at Jefferson County Hospital.
The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Burial will be in Packwood Cemetery at Packwood. Visitation began this morning with family present from 5 to 7 tonight at Raymond Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Fairfield Public Library or the Lutes Scholarship Fund at First Christian Church.
Mrs. LUTES was born Jan. 14, 1904, in Jefferson County, the daughter of John B. and Carrie McCLELLAND STEVER. She lived her entire life in Jefferson County, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1922 and from Parsons College in 1926. She married Hoyt V. LUTES Aug. 11, 1937, at First Christian Church. He died in 1985. She taught high school at Packwood. She was a librarian for 32 years. A resident of Fairfield since 1937, she began working at Fairfield Public Library in 1939. In 1949, she was named librarian and served in that position until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of First Christian Church and a past president of the Fairfield Women's Club.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Marshall (sic. John Marshall), Frank and Charles.
