Dorothy Virginia THORNBURG, 80, of Keosauqua, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren Hospice in Keosauqua.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Heritage Baptist Church southeast of Keosauqua, with the Rev. Larry Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the family present from 3-4 p.m.
Memorials to Heritage Baptist Church may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 25267 Hickory Ave., Cantril 52542.
Mrs. THORNBURG was born June 26, 1930, in Fort Madison, the daughter of Marion and Martha BROWN SLY. She married Harold THORNBURG in 1948. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. THORNBURG grew up in Fort Madison and graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1948. The THORNBURGs lived in several southeast Iowa communities where Mr. THORNBURG farmed.
Mrs. THORNBURG was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in rural Keosauqua. She volunteered with several community activities and was named Good Samaritan Center Volunteer of the Year in 1997.
Survivors include three sons, Richard and wife Susan of Kirkwood, Mo., Steve and wife Clarcie of Des Moines and David and wife Brenda of Washington, Ill.; one daughter, Jane BOLEY and husband Keith of Cantril; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Art, Wendell, Kendall and Herbert SLY; one sister, Mary DOTY; and one granddaughter.
