LIFE OF THE LATE DR. W. H. AXLINE

Dr. W. H. AXLINE was born March 7th, 1846, Licking county, Ohio. During the Civil War at the age of eighteen he enlisted and joined Co. A 67th Ohio Infantry Volunteers, serving one year. Being mustered out Oct. 24, 1865 at Richmond, Va., came to Fairfield, Iowa to make his home with his uncle, Rev. A. A. AXLINE. After teaching school a short time, entered the medical school at Keokuk, Iowa, graduating in 1869. He went immediately to Attica, Iowa, and began the practice of medicine. Dec. 28, 1869 Dr. AXLINE and Valeria HUNTINGER (sic. HUNTZINGER) were united in marriage. Two children were born of this union, Sarah Etta, who died in infancy, and Mary Edith, who with the widow, survives.

Dr. AXLINE after fifty-one years of active practice retired and came with his wife to the home of their daughter, Mrs. J.W. OGLE of Fairfield, Iowa. Was visiting at his old home in Attica, Iowa, when stricken with applexy (sic. - apoplexy), dying at 9 a.m., Sept. 6th, 1921.

Dr. AXLINE was a member of the Methodist church, teaching the Bible class for years. His pastor, Rev. R. J. Arms, conducted the last services at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. OGLE, Thursday, Sept. 8th, 1921, at 4 p.m. He was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.

W. H. AXLINE Dies Suddenly

W. H. AXLINE died at Knoxville Tuesday, where he has been visiting for some months, of appoplexy (sic). His death came while he was walking about the yard. The body was brought to this city Wednesday and will be taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. OGLE, living just west of the fairgrounds, where he made his home. No funeral arrangements have been made.
