Helen Carolyn KELLEY

Helen Carolyn KELLEY, 96, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Arbor Court.

A funeral was held this morning at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. David Plooster officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Mrs. KELLEY was born Nov. 25, 1914, in Highland Center, the daughter of John Hubert and Carrie RABER SMITH. She married Bernard E. KELLEY Nov. 23, 1939, in Burlington. He died Jan. 2, 2003.

Mrs. KELLEY graduated from Packwood High School in 1933. She then attended the Ottumwa Beauty Academy in 1939. She was a housewife.

Mrs. KELLEY was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a member of Quilt Club, Women's Club, Hulda Saunders Questers Club, Northside Mothers Club and Oakland Mills Ladies Aid, all in Mount Pleasant. She was a former member of ODO Club in Batavia.

Mrs. KELLEY enjoyed working in her flower garden and quilting. While living at Arbor Court, she enjoyed playing Bingo.

Survivors include one son, Rodger KELLEY of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Saundra LONDQUIST and husband Jerry of Burlington and Sheryl NELSON and husband Ed of Lockridge; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John; two sisters, Florence WILBURN and Irene BARRON; four brothers, Walter, George, John and Glen SMITH; and one great-grandson.
