BATAVIA.--Melissa FISHEL, 89, died at her home in Batavia at 11:55 p.m. Monday after a serious illness of two weeks.She was born March 29, 1868, in Jefferson county, the daughter of Samuel and Sarah BROWN SHIPLER. She had spent all her life in the county and had lived in Batavia 67 years. She was married April 8, 1891, to Frank FISHEL, who died in 1924. She was a member of the Methodist church.
Four brothers and six sisters preceded her in death. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Lou LIPPS of Batavia, Mrs. Carl WALKER of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Jack SANDEN of Hemet, Calif., and Mrs. D. E. FAGLE of Peoria, and two sons, Gaylord and Clint FISHEL of Fairfield. There are three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Iva JAMES of Waterloo.
The casket is at the Campbell funeral home in Batavia and will be taken to the Methodist church Thursday at 1 p.m. The service will be held there at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Ronald Mercer. Burial will be in the Batavia cemetery.
