Cecil ZOLLARS, 89, of Ottumwa, formerly of rural Keosauqua, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Cecil F. ZOLLARS

Cecil F. ZOLLARS, 89, of Ottumwa, formerly of Keosauqua, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

A service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Ann Donat officiating. Burial, with military rites by American Legion Beer-Barker Post, will be in Lebanon Cemetery.

Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Lebanon United Methodist Church, Lebanon Cemetery or Beer-Barker Post may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at No. 1, Oak Ridge Road, Ottumwa 52501.

Mr. ZOLLARS was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Pierceville, the son of Clyde and Olive BROWN ZOLLARS. He married Velda GARES Sept. 1, 1946, in Mount Sterling.

Mr. ZOLLARS served in the U.S. Navy aboard a destroyer during World War II.

He farmed in the Lebanon community and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 27 years. He retired as office manager of the Van Buren County ASCS office in 1981. He had served two years as president of the state ASCS organization. He and his wife retired to Keosauqua in 1989 and moved to Ottumwa in 1999.

Mr. ZOLLARS was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Mine Warfare Association and Van Buren County Sheep Empire Association. He had served as president of the Van Buren County Artificial Breeding Association. Mr. ZOLLARS was a life member of American Legion Beer-Barker Post No. 113 in Keosauqua and had served as post commander, county commander, first district commander and vice commander of Iowa Department of American Legion. He also was a member of 40 & 8, a branch of the legion. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cecile VAN WINKLE and husband Michael of Ottumwa, Cynthia BERGMAN and husband Jack of St. Francisville, La., and Heather CZOMBA and husband Val of Uniontown, Ohio; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, William ZOLLARS of Glendale, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Hazel LUNSFORD and Arlene SPARKS; two brothers, Dale and Roy ZOLLARS; and one grandson.
