Pg. 5CLINTON McGOHAN
When the sad news came over the phone Friday evening that Clinton McGOHAN had passed to his eternal rest, it came as a real shock to his many friends here. As it will be remembered that Saturday, March 10, while going after a rabbit for his dog and cat the gun accidently discharged itself, the contents entering his side and lungs. He was taken at once to the Jefferson County hospital where the best of medical skill and careful nursing could do was done, but all in vain.
We all had hoped against hope and even when the word was given out that the end was not far away. It did not seem possible that he would have to leave us forever since his residence here years ago he had been a vital and important part in the business and social life of Buchanan township. He made a brave fight for life but death was the victor.
Clinton was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McGOHAN of 51 South Fifth Street. His only sister, Mrs. James ORTON passed away a few years ago, with the flu in her California home, leaving the parents an only son Clinton, and now he too has been called home. And as the wife and parents sit in the shadow of this latest grief they mourn a home made desolate indeed.
Clinton was married to Miss Anna BENSON a few years ago and they took up their abode on the home farm east of the city, where they lived a happy wedded life, until now the grim destroyer has taken the husband.
Clinton was an exemplary young man of noble impulses, only 29 years of age. A loving husband ever dutiful and helpful to his parents to whom he had always been greatly attached. He was always true and faithful in the discharge of his duties to others. Always pleasant to all, ever extending a cheery greeting to the old as well as the young seemed to be his nature to be happy and make all others happy that he came in contact with. His life was full of promise and hope and it seemed hard that he should be taken when he was so greatly needed here in this world. But alas! His life of promise is cut short. Death came and found him ready. He was willing to surrender all the prospects of life for the bright future beyond the grave. The family are all Christians and are leaning on the strong arm of Christ. So far as human sympathy goes they have it in abundance.
