He was born in Millersbury, Ohio June 29, 1844 and at the age of 18 years enlisted in the Civil war in defense of his country's flag. Entering the army with Company E, 189 Ohio Infantry in August 1862 he served three years.

After the close of the war he came west and found employment on the C. B. & Q. railroad. He was a conductor and had a run between Burlington and Ottumwa for over seven years. Then he was transfered to Nebraska where he continued in the employe of the Burlington until his health failed and he was compelled to quit work.

He was married in this city in 1872 to Miss Mary SEARLES. They returned to Fairfield on July 5, 1907 and here in the same old home which they had occupied before during their residence here, Mr. HANNA peacefully closed his eyes on this world forever.

On Sunday, October 27, the members of George Strong Post No. 19 G. A. R. gathered at the home to escort the remains of their comrade to their last resting place in Evergreen cemetery.

The last services were conducted by Rev. Luther Bright of the Lutheran church and Rev. Pearse Pinch of the Congregational church. Capt. J. A. Speilman spoke briefly of the life of Mr. HANNA who was a loving husband, good soldier and an excellent workman and citizen.
