A. S. JORDAN PASSES AWAY

A. S. JORDAN, one of the best known and highly respected citizens of Fairfield, died here at 7:40 this morning at his home, 207 East Broadway. Death resulted from a stroke of paralysis which Mr. JORDAN suffered about nine o'clock Friday evening after he had retired for the night in his usual health. He passed away without regaining consciousness.

Mr. JORDAN was nearing his eighty-third birthday, he having been born at Cape Elizabeth, Maine, on February 22d. 1832. He was the son of Captain and Mrs. Clement JORDAN of that place. He came to Fairfield in 1853, his brother William and Captain William WELLS already having located here.

Mr. JORDAN went into business with his brother and Mr. WELLS and they successfully conducted a mercanitle business in the Jordan block. Later the firm name became Jordan Brothers & Co. He disposed of this business in 1889, and then entered the lumber business which he conducted until about five years ago when he retired from active work.

October 1, 1868, he was united in marriage with Miss Ada M. JORDAN, who with their two children Miss Nellie E. and Arthur G. JORDAN, survive him. He attended the Congregational church and was a man of sterling qualities.

The funeral services will be held from the JORDAN residence, East Broadway, on Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock and interrment will be at Evergreen cemetery.
