Mrs. ZEIGLER Dies Suddenly At Her Home

Mrs. Sanford ZEIGLER, Jr., lifetime resident of Jefferson county, died suddenly about 9 a.m. today at her home, 1002 S. Main street. Her death was caused by a heart attack.

She had been in failing health for the past six years but her death this morning was sudden and unexpected.

The fire department rescue squad was summoned and a resuscitator was used but she failed to respond to emergency treatment. A doctor pronounced her dead shortly after his arrival.

Mr. and Mrs. Sanford ZEIGLER and their daughter, Virginia, had lived on a farm north of Fairfield for a number of years. The just recently purchased the home at 1002 S. Main and had occupied the residence.

ZEIGLER (sic. referring to Sanford ZEIGLER) is a former state senator and a former member of the Iowa Highway commission.

Last rites will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Methodist church. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body wil be taken from the Raymond funeral home to the church at 1 p.m. the day of the funeral.

Erma Hazel ZEIGLER, 70, was born Feb. 4, 1891, on a farm east of Fairfield, the daughter of Peter H. and Flora PHILLIPS FISHER. She was reared and educated in the Fairfield community and attended Parsons college.

She was married to Sanford ZEIGLER, Jr. on Nov. 28, 1912, in Fairfield. Mrs. ZEIGLER spent all of her life in Jefferson county, 35 years of which were spent in the Fairfield community.

She served as deputy clerk of court for a number of years, was a member of the Methodist church, was a past worthy matron of the Eastern Star, and a member of the DAR and DAC.

In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Leo THOMA and Mrs. Mary FISHER, both of Fairfield; and Mrs. O.C. THOMPSON, Falls Church, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Note: A Evergreen cemetery transcription had inadvertently quoted "July 20, 1961" as the death date for Erma ZEIGLER. That was the date of her burial, in 2nd.099 at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa.
