CHAPLIN, Mary I. -- Mary I. CHAPLIN, 87, of Keosauqua, died at 12:26 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Ann Donat officiating. Burial will be in Troy Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present 6-7:30 p.m.

Memorials to Lebanon United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 13447 Route J-40, Milton 52570.

Mrs. CHAPLIN was born March 14, 1923, near Troy, the daughter of N.C. Clay and Sylvia BINGAMAN WELLS. She married Iven H. CHAPLIN. He died in 1977.

Mrs. CHAPLIN graduated from Troy High School. She and her husband farmed in the Troy-Lebanon area. She had worked at the Lebanon Store.

Mrs. CHAPLIN was active in Lebanon United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a founding member of Help Your Neighbor Club. She volunteered at Milton Library and with 4-H and 26-89 Saddle Club.

Survivors include three sons, Michael CHAPLIN of Fort Madison, Monty CHAPLIN and wife Jill of rural Milton and Larry CHAPLIN and wife Lory of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Harold WELLS, Clarence WELLS, Hollis WELLS and Fern "Red" WELLS; and two sisters, Elizabeth HENDRICKS and Verla WELLS.
