WARD, Vera Pauline -- Vera Pauline WARD, 89, formerly of Fairfield and Ollie, died Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. She was born on July 16, 1921, at Richland, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Leona FREDERICK OSWALT. Pauline graduated from the Richland High School with the class of 1938. On September 1, 1940, she was united in marriage to Darrell E. WARD at Sigourney. Darrell died November 25, 1996. Following their marriage, the couple moved to a farm near Ollie. Pauline remained in the home to care for her family until the children were in school; she then began working as a cook at the Ollie Community School. She was a member of the Ollie Eastern Star, the Prairie View United Methodist Church, and was active in United Methodist Women. Pauline was also a part of the Grandmother's Club and the Friendly Four Club. She enjoyed square dancing. Pauline's church and family were the center of her life. Spending time with her grandchildren was always a highlight.
Pauline's family includes her children and their spouses: Danny and Helen WARD of Ollie, Shirley and Fred WOLF of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Marshia and Bob HUNTER of Rockford, Illinois; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen HOTLE of Fairfield.
In addition to her husband, Pauline was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. in the Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie, with Reverend David Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Ollie Cemetery. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. The family will be present to greet friends and relatives at that time. Memorials may be made to the Prairie View United Methodist Church.
