DOROTHY, Leona McSHANE -- Leona (RICHMOND) McSHANE DOROTHY, 91, formerly of Fairfield, IA, died Monday, October 18, 2010 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. She was employed by SIEDA as a Head Start Teacher for 13 years before retiring in August, 1983.

Leona was born May 3, 1919 in Melrose, IA, the daughter of William and Margaret Jane (CLEARY) RICHMOND. She married Leonard Thompson McSHANE on December 24, 1936 in Knoxville, IA. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1980. She then married Floyd DOROTHY on September 3, 1983, in Fairfield, IA. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1998. Leona graduated from Melrose High School in 1936. She attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1977 with an Associates Degree in Child Development. Leona was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield, IA from 1950-2000 and a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dixon, IL from 2000-2009. She was also a member of the "Classy Lassy's" Red Hat Society and the Dixon Women's Club. She enjoyed walking, dancing, reading, and playing cards, but her greatest pleasure as a devoted mother and grandmother was family gatherings.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (Orval) McSHANE-GEARHART, of Dixon; one step-daughter, Vivian NELSON, of Bloomington; one step-son, Donald (Margaret) DOROTHY, of Fairfield, IA; four grandchildren, Tracy CREASON, of Apple Valley, CA, Robert (Marcie) BARNETT, of Hinckley, Kathleen (Jon) SPELLMAN, of Dixon, and Susan (Michael) CULLEN, of Chana; four step-grandchildren, Dirk DOROTHY, of Packwood, IA, Peggy (Art) McDONALD, of Davenport, IA, Dennis DOROTHY, of Stockport, IA, and Brigit KUCKENBECKER, of Cedar Rapids, IA; and numerous loving great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille HENRY and Mildred GADD; and one brother, William RICHMOND.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 21, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fairfield, IA with Father Page, officiating. Graveside service and burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia, IA at 3:30 PM with Father Lumsden, officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling and from 10-11 AM, Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fairfield, IA, prior to services.
