MRS. WALKER DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Services Thursday morning for prominent worker in local church

Mrs. C. S. WALKER, 69, faithful worker in the First Presbyterian church of this city, passed away at 12:10 o'clock this morning at the Jefferson county hospital, where she had been a patient for the past month. Mrs. WALKER had been in failing health for the past year and one-half, and seriously ill for two months.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian church Thursday at 10 a.m., in charge of Dr. William R. Yingling, present pastor of the church, and Dr. Gilbert Voorhies, former pastor. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will be taken from the Hoskins Funeral Home to the church at 9:30 Thursday morning.

Mrs. Mary Nellie WALKER was born July 5, 1871, near Birmingham. She was united in marriage on August 21, 1890, to C. S. WALKER, and they have made their home in Fairfield for many years. Mrs. WALKER was a member of the Presbyterian church for the past 48 years, and held what is probably the record for active service in the Sunday School of the First Presbyterian church of this city, having taught classes for 35 years.

Mr. and Mrs. WALKER celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary last August, with an open house at their residence, 403 West Washington. Shortly after that, they were active in the formation of a Golden Wedding club in Fairfield.

Mrs. WALKER is survived by her husband, C. S. WALKER, by two daughters, Mrs. C. L. NEELY of Corydon and Mrs. Earl D. REED of Fairfield, and by one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mable WALKER of Lockridge. Sevel grandchildren also survive, Pearle, Ila Mae, Ruth and Robert WALKER all of Fairfield, and Bill, Evelyn and Elizabeth NEELY of Corydon.

[Note: Mary Nellie's maiden name was CALHOUN, and she is buried in lot 2nd.143 at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield. A photo of her accompanies the obituary but did not reproduce well from the microfilm, else it would have been included here.]
