PENCE was born Aug. 20, 1879 near Ottumwa, Iowa. He was the son of Thomas Samuel and Ann Eliza CARR PENCE. He was married to Carrie E. CLARK, March 22, 1917 at Mt. Pleasant. His wife survives him, and also one sister, Mrs. Clarence MICKEY of Lockridge.

Several nieces and nephews also survive. A brother, Arnold PENCE of Washington, died last November and his sisters, Mrs. Mabel WALKER, former residents of Fairfield and Mrs. Frank CLARK of Wayland and one small brother are deceased.

PENCE was a lifelong member of the Baptist church. He has spent most of his life in Henry and Jefferson counties, farming near Lockridge until he retired and moved to Fairfield in 1950.
