MAJOR WALKER DIED TODAY
Pneumonia Claims Civil War Veteran and Well Known Fairfield Resident.
Peter H. WALKER died this morning at his home on West Washington street after an illness of several days with pneumonia. Mr. WALKER was one of the best known ofthe (sic) old residents of Jefferson county, having resided near Fairfield since the civil war.
In 1861 he enlisted in the cause of the Union and was mustered out of the war a tthe (sic) close with the rank of Major. He was 71 years of age and is survived by his wife [note: Mary J. NEWELL] and one son Charles who resides about four miles north of Fairfield. The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the residence. Rev. W.W Montgomery, pastor of the Prsbyterian (sic) church will conduct the services. The members of the Grand Army post and old soldiers will attend the funeral in a body.
