Mrs. L. C. SHULTZ

Martha Jane THOMAS, daughter of Violetta and John THOMAS was born at Lockridge, Iowa, in Jefferson county on Sept. 1st in 1849, and departed this life at Richland, Ia., October 27th, 1930 at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 27 days.

At the age of 3 years she moved with her parents to Mt. Pleasant, Ia., where she grew to young womanhood and on March 7th 1878 she was united in marriage to Lewis C. SHULTZ. To this union 5 children were born, 2 daughters and three sons, John A. died in infancy and Harry who resided in Fairfield died in 1921.

The young couple went to live on a farm near White Oak, Ia., in Henry county, soon after their marriage where they resided for 20 years, when they moved to a farm near Rubio, Iowa. They lived there for 15 years when her husband died on June 10, 1913. Mrs. SHULTZ lived on the home farm near Rubio until last spring when she moved to Richland. In her 32 years of residence at Rubio she made many close friends who grieve her going.

She united with the M. E. church in Henry county when a young woman. Her husband was a member of the Friends church at Rubio where they were devout worshippers all thru (sic) the years.

Mrs. SHULTZ leaves to mourn her loss 3 children, Mrs. Mable McALLISTER of Woolson, Mrs. Lillian HOFFMAN of Keota, Jesse SHULTZ of Richland, one brother, George THOMAS of Mt. Pleasant, one brother having preceded her in death. She is survived by 14 grand children and 3 great grand children and host of friends (sic).
