Mrs. V. E. STEVENS Passed Away Yesterday Morning

Mrs. Vesta Elizabeth STEVENS, 67 resident of Fairfield since February 17, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Sunday at the home of Mrs. Nellie Carter where she had been living since February.

She had been a patient at the University hospital in Iowa City for several weeks prior to her residence in Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held at the Hoskins funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. S. P. Williamson will be in charge. Interment will be in the Salina cemetery.

Services Held Today For Mrs. V. E. STEVENS

Funeral services for Mrs. Vesta Elizabeth STEVENS, 67, who passed away on Sunday at the home of Mrs. Nellie Carter, were held today at 2:30 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home.

Mrs. STEVENS had been a resident of Cedar Rapids for the last 20 years. She had been a patient at the University hospital in Iowa City, and later removed to Fairfield on Feb. 17.

Surviving are two sons, Verl and Rollie NELSON of Fairfield; two brothers, Dallas and Jerry BATES of near Salina; and one sister, Mrs. Anna HAWK of Bonaparte.

[Note: Vesta was first married to Frank O. NELSON, and was divorced from him in 1908; he went on to marry Anna BRUEY DROZ and is buried at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

In 1916, in the obituary of her father Joel D. BATES, Vesta is referred to as Vesta HARRIS of Ottumwa, IA. Per another article in the 'Fairfield Journal' in June, 1911, her husband is noted as W. H. HARRIS; at that time they lost a baby girl.

It is unclear how the STEVENS name came into play; perhaps another marriage while in Ottumwa, or in Cedar Rapids?]
