Roy SALTS, Batavia, dies at 71
BATAVIA -- Charles Roy SALTS, 71, died at 12:01 a.m. today at Jefferson County Hospital. He had been in failing health for seven months.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Batavia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Clayton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia. Memorials may be made to his church or the Lions Club.
SALTS was born Sept. 26, 1911 north of Batavia, the son of Samuel and Martha CRAWFORD SALTS. He had spent most of his life in the Batavia area where he had farmed and worked for Grinnell Mutual Insurance Company as a crop adjuster. He had had his realtor license since 1974. On June 23, 1940 he married Ruth KOONTZ, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Rita WHIPPLE of Fairfield; two grandsons, and his mother of Fairfield.
He was a member of Batavia United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge Kilwinning 198, Batavia Lions, Arbor Vitae Chapter 327 OES, The Fairfield Elks Club, SE Iowa Realtors and was involved in several Jefferson County farm organizations.
