Death of a Former Resident

E.A. YOUNG (sic. Edward Allison YOUNG, 1859-1937)), of this city, received word of the death of his father, N. W. YOUNG (sic. Nathaniel W. YOUNG), of Stewart (sic. Stuart, in Guthrie County, Iowa), Iowa. Mr. YOUNG died Thursday morning at half past eleven o'clock from injuries received in a runaway the night before. He was returning home from prayer meeting, when his horse became frightened and he was thrown from the buggy. He retained consciousness for three or four hours after the accident occurred.

Mr. YOUNG was a man of some sixty-three years and for fifteen years, prior to 1871, he resided in this county, his home being near Richwoods church. He came to this county in 1854 and was married here to Miss Sarah E. GALLIHER. His wife and seven children survive him. The children are Hannah E., of Colorado Springs, Colo.; James G., of Oklahoma; E.A., of this city; Effie, of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Charles W., of Adair county, Iowa; Ollie, of Des Moines, Iowa; and Nellie, who is still at home. All the children, except James G. were home for the funeral, which took place last Saturday morning at ten o'clock.

*Transcribed verbatim from microfilm image for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Note:
Nathaniel W. YOUNG was born on March 4, 1834 and died September 28, 1899 according to his headstone inscription. An 1880 U.S. Census for his family indicated that he was born in West Virginia.

Burial took place in what is known as North Oak Grove Cemetery (a/k/a Oak Grove Cemetery) in Stuart, Guthrie County, Iowa. Stuart is located right on the border of Guthrie and Adair counties, and some YOUNG family researchers have used Adair county in their location for this family. Due to the closeness of the town to both counties and the possiblity that the family owned land in both counties, those researching this YOUNG family should consult the genealogy resources of both counties as needed.
