Minnie B. JENKS Taken In Death

Minnie Bird JENKS, long-time resident of the Fairfiled community, passed away about 9:50 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson Nursing home west of Fairfield.

She had been in poor health the past six months and in serious condition the past three days.

Last rites will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond funeral home with Dr. C.R. Douglass officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Members of Fairfield Chapter No. 39, OES, are asked to meet at the funeral home prior to the service to attend the services in a group. Regular Eastern Star services will be conducted.

Minnie Bird JENKS, 93, 411 N. Main, was born Nov. 10, 1868, at Fairfield, the daughter of Samuel M. and Delois GALLIHER JENKS. She was reared and educated in Fairfield and graduated from Parsons college.

She spent her entire life in the Fairfield community except for a few years she spent in western Iowa and Texas. She was a 50-year member of the OES. She was also a member of the Presbyterian church and the DAR.

She is survived by four nephews: Samuel JENKS, Chicago; Paul JENKS, Fairfield; Ed STEPHENSON, Davenport; and Lawrence STEPHENSON, Baton Rouge, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and a niece.

Note: A JENKS/STEPHENSON family researcher in August 1982 noted the death date for Minnie as being January 20, 1962. However, since her obituary was published on Friday, January 19th, and indicated that her death occurred on Thursday, it would seem that her death occurred on Thursday, January 18, 1962.

Burial took place in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa in Old.P.370; that plot contains the burials of several generations of JENKS family descendants of Samuel and Delois JENKS.
