"Mike" CLINKINBEARD used that version in life and on his headstone, but the obituaries for his wife and daughter as published inadvertently used the CLINKENBEARD surnames. Their headstones, however, do use the CLINKINBEARD surname spelling.

Page 1, Column 3CLINKINBEARD Funeral Will Be Wednesday
L. E. CLINKINBEARD (sic. Leslie E. CLINKINBEARD), former well-known insurance agent, clothier and Sunday school superintendent, passed away about 11:15 p.m. Sunday night at his home, 700 E. Burlington street.
He had been in failing health for some time and seriously ill the past three weeks.
Last rites will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Methodist church with Dr. J. Henry Teele officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
"Mike" CLINKINBEARD, as his many friends knew him, was a native of Jefferson county and had lived in Fairfield for 53 years. He was in the clothing business for a short time before he started his career as an insurance agent.
He was with the Prudential Insurance company for 29 years prior to his retirement in 1945. Following his retirement from the insurance business he was employed by the Perry Clothing company for several years and continued his active participation in the Methodist church. He served as superintendent of the Sunday school for 30 years and was a member of the official board for many years.
In more recent years he served as host for the dining room at the Turner hotel.
L. E. "Mike" CLINKINBEARD, 77, was born Sept. 7, 1881 in Jefferson county. He was the son of the late Mace and Elzada BALDWIN CLINKINBEARD (sic. a/k/a CLINKENBEARD). He was reared and educated in Libertyville and was united in marriage on Nov. 22, 1903 to Margaret May GLOTFELTY. She preceded her husband in death on Aug. 21, 1931.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 1192, a member of the Country club and was a past president of the Fairfield Rotary club.
He is survived by a daughter, Margaret, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Alta WEBB, Fairfield; Mrs. Waldo MAY, Evanston, Ill.; Mrs. Floyd McQUISTON, Fairfield; and Mrs. W. R. HEFLIN, Fairfield; and a brother E. J. CLINKINBEARD (sic. Emery J. CLINKINBEARD), Evanston. He is also survived by several neices and nephews.
CLINKINBEARD was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
