A memorial service for Joan BRADSHAW SCOVEL, Hampstead, N. H., will be held July 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home.
A former Fairfield resident, Mrs. SCOVEL, 58, died of cancer June 28 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center Hospital in Burlington, Mass.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment in Fell Cemetery near Libertyville will follow the Monday service.
An earlier memorial service was held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Hampstead. The body was cremated.
Mrs. SCOVEL was born Oct. 27, 1925 in Fairfield, the daughter of Carroll W. and Edna ENYART BRADSHAW. Following graduation from Iowa State University in 1948, she was a decorating consultant and buyer for the Bradshaw Furniture Store here.
She was married to Calvin L. SCOVEL Jr. in 1951. The couple lived in Des Moines where Mrs. SCOVEL was a home furnishings editor for Meredith Publishing Co. They resided in Fairfield for nine years before moving to Topsfield, Mass., in 1961. Since 1965 they resided at Windsong Farm in Hampstead. For the past 13 years Mrs. SCOVEL was a teacher and assisitant director of Gingerbead (sic. Gingerbread ?) House Kindergarten in West Hampstead.
She was a member of the Hampstead Congregational Church; Hampstead Garden Club and the Historical Society. She was a member of Chapter D, PEO, Iowa State Alumni Assn., Chi Omega Sorority and the Parents Council of Derryfield School in Manchester, N.H.
While in Fairfield, Mrs. SCOVEL was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Community Concert Board. She also helped organize the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mildred S. RAWLINGS, Lawton, Okla., and Lauretta J. SCOVEL, Hampstead; and a son, Major Calvin L. SCOVEL III, USMC, Portsmouth, R.I. Also surviving are three grandchildren and her mother, Edna BRADSHAW, Hampstead.
Memorials have been established to the Hampstead or Fairfield Public Libraries or the Hampstead Congregational Church.
