BERT STUBBS DIES IN LOS ANGELES

Member of Old Fairfield Family Had Been In Poor Health Two Years

Charles Elbert STUBBS, better known here as "Bert", died at his home in the Ambassador hotel, Los Angeles, yesterday morning at 11 o'clock of leakage of the heart from which he had been a sufferer for two years (sic. Bert is listed in local genealogy sources as having died on Sept. 5, 1925. Word to the Fairfield Daily Ledger and publication of his obituary/death notice may have taken a couple of days, so that the 'yesterday' referred to in the Sept. 8, 1925 publication may be slightly misleading in making the reader think that the death occurred on Sept. 7th, 1925).

His daughter, Mrs. Carrie WOODEN and her husband of Des Moines left at once for that city and funeral arrangement are awaiting their arrival.

Mr. STUBBS was born in Fairfield August 17, 1860 and attended the public schools and Parsons college. He studied law and was admitted to the bar, but he was extensively interested in the business of importing horses and devoted his time largely to that, making many trips across the nation in that connection.

He left here about 1890 for Denver, where he still continued in the horse business, but entered politics and was elected twice to the legislature. About twelve years ago he went to Billings, Mont., where he was in the oil business and three years ago he retired and went to Los Angeles to make his home.

He married a daughter of Dr. HUNTER of Newton as his first wife and they had one child., Mrs. WOODEN. His second wife was Miss May L. METCALF of Billings, who survives him. Mrs. D.P. STUBBS of Fairfield is his mother (sic. Caroline "Carrie" HOLLINGSWORTH STUBBS, she died less than a year later in Aug. 1926) and O.D. STUBBS (sic. Orsino D. STUBBS) is a brother.
