An Excellent Man Gone

S.O. ROSS, better known as Oscar, a well known young farmer of this county, died at his home five miles northwest of this city Thursday evening, after nearly a year's illness from an affection of the throat and chest. Mr. ROSS was a native of Fayettte county, Penn., and had been a resident of this county since 1866. The death of his father in 1874 (sic. 1873 is the death year on the headstone of his father, Alexander ROSS) left Oscar as the head of the family, and, by the aid of his younger brothers, and his own energy and industrious habits, he not only freed the old home from all incumbrances but added largely to it. He was unmarried. Throughout the community in which he had lived for well nigh a quarter of a century, Mr. ROSS could count nearly every person of his acquaintance as a personal friend. To his well known energy and industry he added all those traits of sterling honesty and straightforwardness which go toward making up the excellent man and citizen. The remains were interred in this city Friday evening, and a procession of vehicles nearly half a mile in length escorted the remains to their final resting place.
