Philip HAMMOND Taken In Death

Philip B. HAMMOND, native of Fairfield and a mail carrier here for 23 years, passed away about 6:25 a.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant. He had been in failing health for a number of years.

Last rites will be held Tuesday at the Raymond funeral home with Dr. C. R. Douglass officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Philip B. HAMMOND, 71, was born Sept. 11, 1886, in Fairfield, the son of the late S. F. and Cynthia BIGELOW HAMMOND. He was reared and educated in Fairfield. He attended public schools here and was graduated from Parsons college with honors.

He received his original appointment as a mail carrier on July 1, 1914. He continued in the postal service until he was given a disability discharge May 1, 1935.

HAMMOND was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Masonic lodge.

He is survived by one cousin, Charles ROSS, Fairfield.

State of Iowa, Jefferson County, ss.

Notice Is Hereby Given, that the undersigned has been duly appointed and qualified as Administrator of the estate of Phillip B. HAMMOND (sic) deceased, late of Jefferson County. All persons indebted to said estate are requested to make immediate payment and those having claims against the same will present them within legal time, duly authenticated, to the undersigned for allowance and file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court.
