Death of Mrs. Mary HAMMOND

It is a painful task to record the death of Mrs. Mary HAMMOND, which occurred in this city Wednesday, November 21st, 1888, at 7:30 p.m. She was attacked with pneumonia last Friday and her system was not able to withstand the disease. Mrs. HAMMOND was born Mary ENSMINGER in York county, Penn , January 10, 1813. She was married to Phillip HAMMOND (sic. Philip HAMMOND) in 1840, and removed to Ohio in 1848, and from there to this county in the fall of 1863 (sic. the obituary for Philip HAMMOND used 1864 for the date). Seven children were born to them, four of whom are living. Her husband died last February (sic. Feb. 2, 1888). She has three sisters and two brothers living. She was for a number of years a member of the Congregational church, and has always led an exemplary and Christian life. She was loving, kind and generous as a wife, mother and neighbor, and many there are who will sadly miss her. The funeral takes place today and the remains will be interred in the Evergreen cemetery.
