Carl R. ZILLMAN, 89, of 400 Highland Ave., died Sunday afternoon, Feb. 14, 1999, at Jefferson County Hospital.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Duane Miller officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home followed by family visitation from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Jefferson County Conservation Board, Iowa Lions Foundation or Shrine Crippled Children's Hospitals.
Mr. ZILLMAN was born Oct. 27, 1909, in Lockridge, the son of Joseph G. and Alma A. HILDEBRAND ZILLMAN. He married Mary Glenn MILLER Jan. 1, 1934, at Rock Island, Ill. She died Aug. 17, 1997.
Mr. Zillman was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. He graduated from Parsons College in 1931. He was in retail sales. He owned and operated ZILLMAN's Furniture Store for 20 years and was manager of Gambles Store for 20 years.
He was a member of Clinton Masonic Lodge AF & AM 15, Davenport Scottish Rite (32nd Degree) & KAABA Shrine, Fairfield Elks Lodge 1192, Fairfield Lions Club, Past President of Lions Club, Fairfield American Legion 47, Jefferson County Conservation Board, and Howard Johnson Coffee Club. He also was a member of First Lutheran Church.
He was an Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include one brother, Kenneth ZILLMAN of Lockridge; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Erma PHILLIPS.
* Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned; I did know Carl and Mary on a social basis, however. I was a member of the Fairfield Lions Club while Carl was a member and enjoyed his always friendly personality.
Note: Carl and Mary ZILLMAN are buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa in 5th.018. Mary's mother, Jessie E MILLER, is also buried in an adjacent plot and they share a joint headstone.
