COLE, Virgil D. -- Virgil D. COLE, 80, of rural Keosauqua, died at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Lee McIntosh officiating. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials to American Cancer Society or Bonaparte Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 24100 Queen Ave., Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. COLE was born Aug. 20, 1929, near Mount Sterling. He married Joyce STORY Jan. 6, 1975, in Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. COLE owned and operated Cole Construction Co., an earth-moving contractor, until turning the operation over to his sons this year. Mr. COLE began operating a bulldozer for his uncle at the age of 15.

Farming and business were his main interests.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dean COLE and wife Sherry of Keosauqua and Justin COLE and wife Laura of Bonaparte; one daughter, Jane ANDERSON and husband Rich of Birmingham; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; six brothers, Ralph COLE of Grinnell, Lloyd COLE of Santa Fe, N.M., Harold COLE of Reardan, Wash., Roy COLE of Waterloo, LaVene COLE of Newton and Richard COLE of Newton; and one sister, Vicki LANE of Stockport.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia BOYD SAMPSON; one daughter, Judy KEUL; two grandchildren; and one sister, Arlene GASKELL.
