DEUTSCH, Victor Eugene -- Victor Eugene DEUTSCH, 96, of East Pleasant Plain, died at 1:35 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Saints Joseph and Cabrini Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and Prayers for a Christian Wake at 7 p.m.

Memorials to Saints Joseph and Cabrini Church or masses may be left at the church or may be mailed to the family at 32585 Woodsdale Lane, Solon, OH 44139.

Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. DEUTSCH was born April 3, 1914, south of Wayland, the son of Isadore and Eugenia WOBIG DEUTSCH. He married Evelyn Ann PECK Feb. 24, 1921, in East Pleasant Plain. She died Dec. 19, 2003.

Mr. DEUTSCH spent his early years in the Wayland and Brighton area and attended Sluville Country School. He moved to East Pleasant Plain in 1936 and drove a livestock truck for a few years. He worked for Pickard Lumber Company for 35 years, retiring in 1980. He had lived in McCreedy Home in Washington since 2005.

Mr. DEUTSCH served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He was a member of Saints Joseph and Cabrini Church in East Pleasant Plain and Brighton Lions Club. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Fairfield.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosalyn BOMBEI and husband Gary of Solon, Ohio, and Julie DAVIS of Sheboygan, Wis.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary SHELANGOSKI and Esther HORAK, both of Washington.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dennis; and four brothers, Leo, William, Isadore and Joseph.
