October 24, 1906.....The funeral of Mrs. Belbena VOLGENSKI, a former resident of this vicinity who died Monday (sic. October 22, 1906) at her home in McPherson, Kansas, will be held from St. Mary's Catholic church in this city tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. The body, which was expected to arrive in this city this morning, but which was delayed and missed connecitons at Kansas City, on account of the severe snow storm, will probably get here this afternoon some time. The family are well known in Jefferson county. They were for many years occupants of the Funk farm about four miles North east of Fairfield.

Transcriber note: At Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield on SDiv1.-020 is a joint headstone under the WODGENSKI surname for Leo WODGENSKI and his mother, listed as Balbine on the headstone but referred to as Belbena in the death notice above.
This family was originally of Polish lineage, and an examination of the 1903 probate documents for the son Leo shows that the surname on certain land documents was recorded as VOGENSKI, instead of WODGENSKI. A legal petition was filed and approved for the WODGENSKI surname to be the dominant legal surname for this family.
The husband and father, Leo WODGENSKI, who died on September 19, 1916 in Liberty TWP of Jefferson County, at age 82y 5m 27d, was originally recorded as being buried at "Fairfield". It isn't clear from cemetery records if he was buried in Old Fairfield City Cemetery or in Evergreen Cemetery, however. No headstone or specific record for his burial has yet been found or documented.
A daughter, Julia BELIEL, is also buried on this same cemetery plot.
