George ACKLEY, long-time resident of the Fairfield community, died suddenly about 11:45 a.m. today at his home, 1½ miles south of Fairfield.
The body is at the Weston Behner Funeral home where last rites are pending.

Last rites for George ACKLEY, 66, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. CDT at the Weston Behner Funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion in Evergreen cemetery.
ACKLEY died suddenly Monday at 11:45 a.m. at his home one and a half miles south of Fairfield. He had been a resident of this community for 35 years.
ACKLEY was born Nov. 19, 1894 near Centerville, the son of John and Celia FROST ACKLEY. He was married to Maude VAN WINKLE June 24, 1920.
ACKLEY was a former member of the Fairfield police force. He also worked for a number of local business firms before retiring in 1953. He was a member of the Christian church. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife and three sons, Roger, Tucson, Ariz.; George Jr., Littleton, Colo.; and Donald, Davenport. Also surviving are six grandchildren and three brothers: Clark, Cincinnati, Ia.; Hazen and Roy, both of Unionville, Mo. One granddaughter is deceased.

Note: The granddaughter referred to in the obituary for George Earl ACKLEY was Connie Sue ACKLEY. She was born in 1958 and died shortly after Christmas, 1960. She is buried in the same plot (4th.012) in Evergreen Cemetery as her paternal grandparents, George and Maude ACKLEY.

Mr. and Mrs. George ACKLEY Jr., of Denver, and Donald ACKLEY and daughter, Donna of Davenport returned to their homes Friday after being called here to attend funeral services Wednesday for their father, George ACKLEY. Another son and his family, the Robert ACKLEYs and two children, Darcy Jo and Colin, left Monday for their home in Tucson, Ariz.
Others from out of town who attended services were Clark ACKLEY, Cincinnati, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Hazen ACKLEY, Mr. and Mrs. Roy ACKLEY, Clyde Forbes, Mrs. Lola Brown and Juanita Aikens, all of Unionville; Mrs. Nell Dusenberry and Mrs. Elizabeth Dilly of Mt. Pleasant; and Elmer ACKLEY of Colfax.
Mr. and Mrs. Willis Wellington, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur VAN WINKLE and Orval VAN WINKLE all of Brighton; Tilford VAN WINKLE of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Smith of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Wellington, Washington; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Miller, Keota; and Mrs. Eva Black, Ottumwa.
