HOHL, Carl E. -- Carl E. HOHL, 91, of Keosauqua, died at 9:18 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2010, in the hospice department at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Larry Shipley and the Rev. Elsa Lawry officiating. Cremation will follow the service, and a private burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Franklin.

Memorials to St. Peter's Church, St. Peter's Cemetery or the Good Samaritan Society's hospice may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at P.O. Box 129, Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. HOHL was born Aug. 18, 1918, near Franklin, the son of Edward P. and Helen KIRCHNER HOHL. He married Gladys M. BLACKSMITH Dec. 22, 1941, at St. Peter's Church in Franklin.

Mr. HOHL and his wife lived in Fort Madison, where he worked at Sheaffer Pen Co. The couple moved to Keosauqua July 1, 1949, and Mr. HOHL operated Hohl & Hohl Hardware & Implement Store with his cousin Lester HOHL. Mr. HOHL retired in 1983, but continued to do service and repair work from his shop.

Mr. HOHL was a member of St. Peter's Church. He had been president of Keosauqua Commercial Club and a member of the Van Buren Good Samaritan Center board. He was a member of Fort Madison Eagles Club. He was honored as Keosauqua citizen of the year in 1998 and was grand marshal of the Keosauqua fall festival parade in 1994. He had been the official Keosauqua weather observer for 30 years and was involved in Van Buren Sheep Empire Days.

Mr. HOHL enjoyed bowling and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda HOAGLIN and husband Doug of Phoenix, Ariz., and Cynthia MORRIS and husband Virgil of Keosauqua; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jacob HOHL.
