R. J. CHARLES Taken In Death

Raymond J. CHARLES, 80, 202 Forest Drive, died Friday at 7:45 p.m. at the Jefferson County hospital after a serious illness of two days. He entered the hospital Friday morning.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Raymond Funeral home in charge of Edward M. Esler. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

CHARLES was one of Jefferson county's first auto mechanics. He was employed by the Iowa Highway Commission for 25 years before retiring in 1954. He first served as mechanic for the local Highway Commission shop. He was division mechanic and later district mechanic for 17 southeast Iowa counties.

CHARLES was born Feb. 14, 1884 at Veo, the son of John Henley and Jenny (sic. a/k/a Jennie) MAHON CHARLES. He was married Feb. 20, 1909 to Vida YOUNG, who died March 25, 1923. On Feb. 20, 1934, he was married to Cecil DUNN, who survives.

Also surviving are the following children: Richard CHARLES, Waterloo; Henley CHARLES, with the U.S. Air Force at Fayetteville, N.C.; Mrs. Jeannette ALLEN, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Mrs. Allene METH, Santee, Calif. One stepdaughter, Betty Lou WRAY, San Francisco, Calif., 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive.

CHARLES was a past master of the local Masonic lodge and a member of the Presbyterian church.

The name of Raymond J. CHARLES Jr., was inadvertently omitted from the list of survivors of Raymond J. CHARLES published Saturday.

Raymond J. CHARLES Jr. resides in Boulder, Colo. Funeral services for his father will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Raymond Funeral home.
