OBITUARY

WILLIAM RUSSELL SALTS

William Russell SALTS, born in Indiana, November 19, 1892, Oldest son of James and Ella SALTS, passed away July 3, 1937, in the Ed. Hines Jr. Hospital, Hines, Ill., following an illness of four months.

When he was six years of age the family came to Jefferson county, where he lived a better part of his life.

In 1917 (sic. June 1, 1917) he married Ethel Mae SPRY, daughter of Luther and Mary SPRY. One son, Francis Lee was born of this union. Mrs. SALTS passed on in 1920. In 1925 he married again, Elsie Mae LAREN was his last wife.

In 1918 Mr. SALTS' father passed on. Also, two sisters are resting in peace.

One sister, Mrs. John TOMPKINS and seven brothers, Ralph, Byran, Earl, Everett, Forrest, Stanley, and Clifford, all residents of this city, and his wife, formerly Elsie LAREN of Chicago, and a host of relatives and friends are left to survive him.

Russell, as he was known, was in service in France during the war. He was employed in the printing business in Chicago until his fatal illness.

The funeral services were held July 5, 1937 at the Hoskins funeral home. The American Legion took a part with Dr. Gable of the First Methodist Church taking charge.

Six of the SALTS brothers served as pallbearers. Miss Cora BALL sang several lovely hymns while Mrs. VOORHIES played the accompaniment. He was laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery, in a part that was once a pasture in which Russell played as a child.
