Wednesday Feb. 24, 1943SALINA WOMAN TAKES LIFE BY HANGING
Body of Mrs. Nels Nelson found in shed early this morning
Mrs. Nels NELSON, 66, resident of Salina, took her own life this morning by hanging herself in a shed back of her home, according to authorities. Her body was found by her husband about 7:30 o'clock this morning.
She had been in poor health for the past year and it is believed that was the motive for her act.
It was reported that Mr. NELSON missed his wife shortly after 7 a.m. He went to the shed and found her body hanging from a rafter. She had apparently tied a rope around the rafter and then around her neck, and jumped from a table nearby.
Coroner Jack Raymond and Sheriff Thomas Howell were called to the scene and pronounced the death as suicide. No inquest will be held.
Emma Christina NELSON was born Nov. 20, 1867 (sic. published transcription error, should be 1876), near Germanville in Jefferson county. She had lived in Salina for the past seven years. She was married March 30, 1921, and was a member of the Salina Lutheran church.
Mrs. NELSON is survived by her husband, five step children and three brothers. One sister, one brother and her parents preceded her in death.
The body was taken to the Hoskins funeral home where funeral arrangements are pending.
