BUCH, Eugene -- Eugene BUCH, 79, of Fairfield, died at 10:46 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Behner Funeral Home.

BUCH, Eugene 'Gene' Ernest -- Eugene "Gene" Ernest BUCH, 79, died from pancreatic cancer Sunday, May 2, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church, followed by a prayer service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church. Cards and memorials may be sent to 1829 Brookville Road, Fairfield 52556.

Mr. BUCH was born Sept. 17, 1930, the son of Leo and Geneva ADRIAN BUCH. He married Helen Agnes TUREK at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield.

Mr. BUCH attended school in Keota until 1942 when his family moved to Jefferson County. He graduated from Farifield High School in 1948. Mr. BUCH began farming after graduation. He joined the United States Army in March 1953. He was stationed in the United States and Germany and was discharged in March 1955. He then returned to farming.

Mr. BUCH was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus. He also was affiliated with Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks Lodge No. 1192, Red Power Tractor Association and Wayland Tractor Club.

Mr. BUCH liked restored IH tractors, which he annually exhibited at the Old Thresher's Reunion in Mount Pleasant. He enjoyed taking tractor tours across the countryside. Mr. BUCH and his wife hosted the Annual Vintage Dodge Power Wagon Rally for many years. He also enjoyed working in his machine shop, exhibiting gadgets at the Jefferson County Fair and Iowa State Fair, landscaping, attending auctions and collecting toys and antiques.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Scott and David, both of Fairfield; two daughters, Barbara MILLER and husband Danny of Fairfield and Laura of New Sharon; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, Lloyd BUCH, Leonard BUCH and Keith BUCH, all of Fairfield; and two sisters, Evalee MICKEY of North Liberty and Donna SHELANGOSKI of Springfield, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bernadine SHEETZ.
