Page THREE, Column 3DEATH CLAIMS S. A. COPELAND
S. A. COPELAND, a resident of Fairfield for the past 10 years, passed away at 5:15 p.m. yesterday at the veterans hospital in Des Moines. He had been in failing health for three years and seriously ill the past three weeks.
Mr. COPELAND was taken to the hospital last Friday suffering from a heart ailment. He was 79 years of age at the time of his death.
Last rites will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Samuel Andrew COPELAND was born September 27, 1868, at Folks Station, Ohio, the son of the late Samuel and Mary RALLSTON (sic - RALSTON) COPELAND. He was united in marriage June 18, 1889, to Laura GANTZ, who survives.
Mr. COPELAND was a farmer most of his life until his retirement 10 years ago. At that time he moved to Fairfield where he had made his home until his death.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, the Masons, and the United Spanish War Veterans. He served with Company H of the 15th Minnesota Volunteers during the Spanish-American war.
Besides his wife, Mr. COPELAND is survived by a sister, Mrs. May L. CLAYWELL, of Caldwell, Washington, and a brother, John H. COPELAND, Fairfield.

State of Iowa,
Jefferson County, ss,To All Whom It May Concern:
You Are Hereby Notified, That an instrument of writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament and Codicil of S. A. COPELAND, Deceased having been this day filed, open and read, Saturday the 8th day of May, 1948, is fixed for hearing proof of same at the Court House in Fairfield, Iowa, before the District Court of said County, or the Clerk of said Court, and at 9:30 o'clock A. M., of the day above mentioned all persons interested are hereby notified and required to appear, and show cause, if any they have, why said instrument should not be probated and allowed as and for the last Will and Testament of said deceased.
Dated at Fairfield, Iowa, April 10, 1948.
