Plan Funeral Here For Former Resident Who Died In Oregon

Funeral services will be held the latter part of this week in Fairfield for Mrs. J. Arch STEWART of Portland, Oregon, a former resident of this city. She passed away suddenly last Friday. The time and date will be announced pending arrival of relatives.

Nellie ISRAEL STEWART was born and raised in Fairfield, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert ISRAEL. She has many friends here among the earlier residents, who mourn her passing.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Arch STEWART, Portland; one sister, Mrs. Fred SPIELMAN, Fairfield, and a brother, Lon H. ISRAEL, Eldon, Iowa. Four nephews also survive. They are Dr. Robert ISRAEL, Warren, Penn.; Prof. Harry ISRAEL, Madison, Wis.; Delmer T. ISRAEL, Palo Alto, Calif.; and Hugh R. ISRAEL, Eldon.

Note: The obituary spells the first name as "Nellie"; her headstone is spelled with "Nelle".

She was first married to Robert T. JUNKIN on August 14, 1901. He died in February 1904 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery 2nd.109, where other members of the ISRAEL family are buried.

She evidently later married Dr. J. Arch STEWART (sic. when, where?) and lived in Portland, Oregon. She was buried in the ISRAEL family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa, Section/Lot 2nd.109. Dr. STEWART is not buried at Evergreen Cemetery, however.

She was born in 1874; however, her headstone is found to be engraved with the death year of 1946 instead of the correct 1945.

Her sister, Harriet ISRAEL (1876-1966), is referred to as "Mrs. Fred SPIELMAN". She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery as well, in 3rd.004.
