Note: This is the initial death notice for the Hon. C.W. SLAGLE published in the Fairfield Ledger the day after his death. Because the issues were published weekly this notice was all that was published until the following issue, when several full length columns were devoted to the full obituary and tributes from friends, professional colleagues, and law associations of which the Hon. SLAGLE was a member of. Those accounts and tributes were quite extensive and detailed.

Death of Hon. C.W. SLAGLE

Our people were startled last evening by the report of the death of Honorable Christian W. SLAGLE. Inquiry proved the report true. His death was unexpected by all. He had been confined to his bed for nine days, and it was thought yesterday morning that there was some improvement in his condition. He suddenly grew worse toward evening, and at 8 o'clock passed away quietly and calmly. Mr. SLAGLE was one of the oldest, most esteemed and public spirited citizens that Fairfield ever possessed, and it will be impossible for anyone to fill his place. We are so deeply afflicted by his death and that of another old citizen, Alexander FULTON, that we can say nothing further at this time.

The funeral will take place Friday morning at 9 o'clock, from his late residence.

*Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the SLAGLE surname, and only extremely distantly connected to the FULTON family surname of Jefferson County.

Note: Christian W. SLAGLE died on October 3, 1882 and was then buried at Old Fairfield City Cemetery in a designated SLAGLE family plot (# 96) that is bordered by a concrete edge and steps. There are now at least 10 known direct and indirect SLAGLE family members buried in this plot.
