James Slagle ECKERT was born July 29, 1857, and departed this life Jan. 20, 1905, aged 47 years, 5 months and 20 days. He was born and reared in Fairfield, but left home early in life to follow his trade as moulder in larger cities. He was considered a fine workman and spent several years in Chicago, Peoria, Des Moines and Omaha. Over a year ago he returned to Fairfield to care for his aged mother who passed away last Oct. Since her death he seemed in his usual health but a sudden stroke Friday morning proved fatal after a few hours. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. YOUNG of Fairfield and Mrs. CRANE of Council Bluffs to mourn his loss. He was an affectionate son and the loss of his mother grieved him greatly. Though of quiet habits he was possessed of a strong nature and held tenaciously to what he felt was right.
The funeral was held at the home of his sister, Mrs. YOUNG, yesterday afternoon and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. Alex. Corkey assisted by Rev. Thos. Osborn. The family have the sympathy of the community in their sudden bereavement.
