Pg. 3Death of John S. ECKERT
John S. ECKERT, a gentleman known to nearly every resident of Fairfield, died at the home of his brother, James ECKERT, in this city Wednesday. He had been ill for many months, and his demise was not unexpected. Mr. ECKERT was a native of Washington, Penn., where he was born September 27th, 1820. In 1838 he removed to Indiana, where he was engaged in business until 1851. Two years later he came to this city, which has been his home ever since, with the exception of two or three years following 1866, when he resided in Montana. He leaves one child, a married daughter, whose home is in Montana. Deceased was a plain, unassuming man, of retiring disposition, but made many friendships of a lasting character. He was tender hearted as a woman, and lost no opportunity to relieve distress or minister to the wants of a suffering friend. A wide circle of relatives and acquaintances in this city will mourn the death of John S. ECKERT. The funeral occurred last evening, the body being interred with masonic honors.
