NELSON, Larry B. -- Larry B. NELSON, 80, of Bonaparte, formerly of Lockridge, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lockridge. Military honors will be conducted by the Lockridge Veterans Association.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

A memorial has been established to New Sweden Lutheran Church.

Mr. NELSON was born Feb. 13, 1930, at Four Corners, the son of Harold and Margaret McGAW NELSON. He married Inez E. BALLARD Nov. 30, 1959, in Burlington. She preceded him in death.

Mr. NELSON graduated from Lockridge High School. He served in the military during the Korean War. He owned and operated the DX Station in Lockridge.

Mr. NELSON was a former member of the Lockridge Lions Club and had served on the Lockridge City Council and Lockridge Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of First Augustana Lutheran Church of Lockridge.

Survivors include three children, Alan NELSON of Texas, Bob NELSON of Lockridge and Pamatha NEELEY of Bonaparte; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; and one sister, Patty GLENN of Fredericksburg.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Linda Sue.
