Charles Edward CARY, Jr., 77, of 702 3rd St., Batavia, died at 11:30 a.m. April 17, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).
He was born July 6, 1932, in Morning Sun, Iowa to Charlie and Letha McAFEE CARY. He married Margaret J. WHITMORE on July 6, 1957, at Peoples Church in Batavia.
He was a graduate of Packwood High School in 1950, attended trade school in Milford, Nebraska. He also attended Elim Bible Institute in Lima, NY. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict).
He was a maintenance supervisor at the Ottumwa Medical Clinic from 1984-2007.
He was a member of Hickory Grove Community Church.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret; his children, Michelle Ann MYERS of Birmingham, Pamela Lynn (David) FISHEL of Fairfield, Cheryl Leigh (Ward) MALLONEE of Ottumwa and Jonathan (Kimberly) CARY of King William VA; grandchildren, Luke (Bethany) FISHEL, Laura FISHEL, Derek FISHEL, Stephanie MYERS, Rachel MALLONEE, Samantha MALLONEE, Mackenzie CARY, Justin CARY, Cameron CARY and Nathan CARY; a great granddaughter, Chloe Michele CHAMP; 3 sisters, Jeanne REA of California, MO, Baja HOGAN of Shell Rock, IA and Marlene SNYDER of Muscatine, IA; 3 brothers, Marvin CARY of California, James CARY of Walcott, IA and David CARY of Moline, IL.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cynthia Jean CARY; 4 sisters, Lois USHMAN, Zelda MORRIS, Twyla RUBEY and Mary COPELAND; 3 brothers, infant brother, Floyd CARY, Dean and Ellis CARY.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hickory Grove Community Church in Ottumwa with Rev. Byron & Marthana Newland and his nephew, Rev. Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for the Child Development Center at Hickory Grove Community Church.
