WATTERSON, Joseph Vardell -- Rev. (Chaplain, Colonel, Ret. US Army) Joseph Vardell WATTERSON, of Broadway, NC, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 3rd, at his home.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Frances WILSON WATTERSON, his daughter, Gloria WATTERSON FOSTER and husband Murray FOSTER, daughter Susan Beryl WATTERSON, (all of Fairfield, Iow), one son, Joseph V. WATTERSON Jr., wife Dolan and 2 grandchildren, Matthew Joseph WATTERSON and Mary Catherine WATTERSON. Rev. Joe's loving Christian outreach spanned 69 years. He established 4 missions that are flourishing churches today. He served as Army Chaplain for 21 years in over 8 locations, interim Baptist pastor to over 13 churches and was the first Director of the Chaplaincy Dept. of the N.C. Baptist State Convention.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday, April 5th, at the Holly Springs Baptist Church multipurpose building. The service will be at 3 pm on Tuesday, April 6th at the same church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Joseph Vardell and Mary WILSON WATTERSON Endowed Scholarship Trust at Campbell University, in care of Holly Springs Baptist Church, 385 Holly Springs Church Road, Broadway, NC, 27505.
